Fans got a thrill when Derrick James and Dale Williams connected against Troup County. The longest such play in AAAA Region 5 this season, the connection resulted in 77 yards.
Carrollton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Shaw, 52-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Baylor Whitfield threw for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 14-22 with 1 interception.
Mikell Lands-Davis was a passing and rushing force as Alexander fell to Sandy Creek. Lands-Davis' favorite target this week was Brian Dansereau, who caught 7 passes for 117 yards.
Demarre Kitt was the best receiver in the league this week as the Patriots topped the Cougars. Kitt racked up 5 receptions for 122 yards. Justin Sumpter helped Sandy Creek's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 55 yards.
Leading AAAA Region 5 in both passing and receiving yards, Sandy Creek's Cole Garvin and Kitt have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Garvin has thrown for 1,234 yards this season, while Kitt has 36 catches for 580 yards. Alexander's Lands-Davis leads the league in rushing yards with 1,334.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Matt Combs' team takes on Carrollton. At the moment, the Cougars are in third, while Rayvan Teague's team is in first.
LaGrange made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,981 from 5,428. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 36-20 victory over Fayette County last week.
