We've stopped on our way to Cincinnati in a town just outside of St. Louis. The drive today went pretty good. I will admit that I made a wrong turn that sent us a bit south, almost to Arkansas to be exact, but we made a few turns and got back on track.
Chris and I have are still reeling from how great our last week was. Chris is having fun basking in the glory of his prediction of Jenks as the winners, however it is a long season and I have a lot of time to catch up.
The game this past week was exactly what I had wanted to see, an intense rivalry in the heartland of the country. The best thing for me was getting to talk with several of the players after the game from both teams. Obviously the Union guys were crushed and the boys from Jenks were jacked, however every player I talked to seemed to be honored by being able to play the game on such an amazing stage. Everyone involved seemed to realize that it was not the an everyday thing to be playing a high school football game with your childhood buddies in front of 24,000 fans. Players and coaches were humble and quick to spread credit to their family and teammates. I can only hope that the coaches, players, and fans we meet around the country have as much of an appreciation and respect for the game as the people of Tulsa did. Jenks and Union high school are building more than just great football players, but great men.
