There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Picayune last week (their 5th in a row). Everything went its way against Long Beach as it secured a 57 - 7 win. Picayune gave the Long Beach offensive line some real trouble with five sacks (and will no doubt be looking to keep the pressure on Hattiesburg this Friday). Thanks to its success, Picayune cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 25th spot.
Can't Touch This
South Panola got a 21 - 7 win over Tupelo last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Janari Dean. Dean rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns. That performance made Dean one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Starkville (2nd in the power rankings) and Madison Central (7th) did not disappoint. Starkville snuck past Madison Central with a 21 - 17 victory. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Rodrigues Clark, who brought his A game into the contest. He earned two touchdowns and 61 yards rushing the ball.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Oak Grove (12th in the power rankings) and Brandon (4th). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Brandon and Oak Grove both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Brandon with six and Oak Grove with five), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
