In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. A special shoutout goes to East Central's senior Alex Maxwell, who scored seven total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Movin on Up
Highlands brought the heat last game after its low-scoring effort (seven points) in the match before. Everything went its way against Ryle as it secured a 40 - 3 win. Highlands did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. Its success was rewarded with a eight-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
This Week's Big Showdown
The clash of the power ranking titans last week was between Beechwood (15th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Corbin (5th). Victory was within reach, but Beechwood ultimately lost 21 - 14 to Corbin. As a result, Beechwood fell two positions in the power rankings.
Game of Inches
The title of the most exciting match of the week goes to the clash between Sycamore and Lakota West. Sycamore won a game that couldn't get any closer, slipping by Lakota West 8 - 7. Sycamore saw its record improve to 3-0 and its power rank jump seven places as a result.
Can't Stop Won't Stop
It was another outing, another win last week for the team with the longest stretch of success (four consecutive games). Covington Catholic took its game against Kings by a confident 42 - 9 score. The win raised Covington Catholic up two spots in the power rankings.
