It's been a long last two days as Chris and I rolled through the Southwestern US and down to San Antonio Texas. Our first drive in the Maxpreps Express was great. Driving down the interstates in our decked out motor home gains us a lot of attention and it seems that everywhere we stop people are excited to find out about what going on. My favorite encounters are the old-timers who are quick to bring up their glory days and swap football stories. I quickly learning that my favorite part of this trip will be the variety of people that I am able to talk with at the local restaurants and gas stations around the country. The downer of the trip came when we decided to empty our sewage holding tanks and my four years of college education did not serve me so well. Feel free to read about it in Chris' journal entry, my ego is still in shock and I'm not quite ready to talk about it.
We got to the Alamo dome today and were in time to catch tonight's game between the Canyon Cougars and the Hendrickson Hawks. When Chris and I walked through the tunnel it took us a few minutes to realize that we were here to watch high school games and not college guys or men getting paid. Both teams were clearly excited to get their seasons underway and played with enthusiasm for all four quarters. In the end, Canyon pulled away with a 37-7 win using a rock solid D and the legs of running back Chase Wilke. I'm told that the crowds and atmosphere will be even more insane tomorrow during our feature Game of the Week with Smithson Valley and The Woodlands.
All in all the trip is off to a solid start. We are camped out in the parking lot at the Alamo dome for the next few days and are ready to stop driving for and watch these kids have the opportunity of a lifetime.
