T-minus 48 hours until game time, and the atmosphere is really picking up around town. There are signs all over the place that mention either Trinity or St. X. With the Louisville Cardinals in the midst of a two-game losing streak, it seems like the big game this Friday might be drawing even more attention than it normally would. That says a whole lot; anyone who has ever been down here for "Pride Week" can vouch for that.
Today we spent a good portion of our day at St. X. In the afternoon, we got a tour around campus from Mr. Chuck Willenbrink, who works in the Development Office at the school. We got to see all the posters and decorations adorning the school, as well as many of the trophies that St. X has amassed over the years. Talking to Mr. Bill Glaser, teacher and former head football coach, was probably the highlight of the afternoon, as he reminisced about the genesis of the rivalry.
This evening we shared an excellent BBQ dinner with the team, all thanks to Nike. Their area rep, Keith Conrad, was on hand to speak to the team. He presented head coach Bob Glaser with a locker room poster that included the team's motto, "Tradition Unequaled", in addition to some limited edition t-shirts. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was fun, and the team parents there to help out were extremely hospitable.
Tomorrow we'll be hopping on 264 East and heading to the place known around St. X as "that other school." We are both extremely excited to see how the rivalry is viewed from a Trinity point of view. Coach Beatty and his staff have been extremely helpful to us, and we're looking forward to spending some time with the Shamrocks. Check back tomorrow! ~SS
