Beginning on March 31st and concluding in late May, twenty of the best high school boys (10) and girls (10) basketball teams in America will be honored for their highly nationally ranked position and their championship caliber season by MaxPreps.com and the Army National Guard. To qualify, each team would have to be a nationally top ranked team in MaxPreps’ unbiased, computerized rankings system. Following all state championship finals in mid-late March 2009, MaxPreps will contact twenty schools about their selection as a honoree on the 3rd annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions Presented by the Army National Guard.
MaxPreps uses an intricate computer program to determine team rank. Prior season history, school size, and comments on message boards are not considered in the MaxPreps rankings.
The system utilizes the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins the higher the ranking, but the system also takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents) and strength of schedule. For example, losing to a team that is ranked below them verses a team ranked ahead hurts a team’s ranking more. Basketball rankings are updated twice a week throughout the season.
The Army National Guard is the presenting partner of the MaxPreps Tour of Champions. Throughout the ceremony, Army National Guard representatives will show their support for the honored school by disseminating commemorative Tour t-shirts to each player and coach, distributing mini-basketballs and other items to the crowd and players. The Army National Guard’s primary involvement at each ceremony is the presentation of the prestigious MaxPreps Tour of Champions National Rankings Minutemen Trophy to the head coach and basketball players. The Trophy is symbolic for excellence, strength, dedication and commitment. We look forward to our 3rd year and congratulations on those selected twenty schools!
Now, lets go touring!
