There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. The action included a dizzyingly high 114-point combined score from Middletown and Mt. Pleasant.
Can't Touch This
La Salle Academy got a 28 - 20 win over Cranston West last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Nathan Lussier. Lussier rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Lussier as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Bishop Hendricken and East Providence, 1st and 5th in the power rankings, respectively. Bishop Hendricken didn't have too many spare points, but it still walked away with a 21 - 14 win. 21 is shaping up to be its lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its victory over Shea the game before.
Movin on Up
South Kingstown will have a better view of things this week after its strong showing last week propelled it six spots up the power rankings. That was the biggest rise of the week. Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, it beat Portsmouth 34 - 27. The Portsmouth defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 32 points per game), and South Kingstown took advantage of that.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Mt. Hope (11th in the power rankings) and East Greenwich (8th). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. East Greenwich and Mt. Hope both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (East Greenwich with six and Mt. Hope with four), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
