Trevor and I went to Trinity today to catch up with the Shamrocks on the eve of the big game. Like yesterday, the school was very friendly and hospitable. Mr. Joey Porter showed us all around the school's campus. Many students recognized our MaxPreps polos and said hello as we walked around.
At lunch time, we watched as a Trinity teacher sat on a dunk tank as students took turns trying to nail the target to send him into the water. A few were successful. Unfortunately for the teacher, it was somewhat overcast and much cooler today, and he was shivering on the seat, all in the name of Pride Week. Later in the day, we returned for the hamburger cook out contest. Freshman Keith Wilson shocked the Trinity tailgating community when his burgers won it all. Thanks to school activities director Jennifer Browning, who made sure Trevor and I were able to sample some of the competing burgers.
From the tailgate, students headed over to the football field, which doubles as the Shamrocks' home soccer field, to watch the Trinity vs. St. X soccer game. Also, the freshmen football game took place today. It was held at St. X, and was expected to draw thousands of people. The parking lot will be packed again sooner than you would think. Trinity is tailgating before school. Some students said they planned to arrive at 4 AM to begin cooking breakfast sandwiches.
Tomorrow night can't come soon enough. It should be complete and utter madness. I really expect a very close game. Earlier in the week, I thought Trinity was clearly the favorite. But from what I've been hearing in town, it seems as if St. X. has one of their deeper teams in recent years. It's still too close to call, and I haven't really made up my mind as to who I think will pull it out.
Finally, I'd be remiss not to shout out my alma mater, St. Peter's Prep, as they prepare to play North Bergen on ESPNU tomorrow night. Go Prep!
