The power rankings have experienced a modest tune-up after last week's playoff battles. The action included a dizzyingly high 101-point combined score from Girard and Licking Valley.
Girard has been an offensive powerhouse for three straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It got a somewhat close 53 - 48 victory over Licking Valley. Senior Mark Waid was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he finished up with 435 yards passing and four rushing touchdowns). The victory also thrust Girard into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 24th spot.
Movin on Up
Kenston claimed most-improved honors this week by climbing the power ranking ladder 20 rungs after its game against Eastmoor Academy. Kenston blew past Eastmoor Academy 40 - 7. Kenston did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between St. Edward (2nd in the power rankings) and Colerain (1st). The teams have their eyes fixed on the championship after last-week playoff conquests. Colerain and St. Edward can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
