SUMNER, Wash. --- Sumner High School's Sunset Chevrolet Stadium will be the site for Saturday's Edge Football Combine and Showcase presented by Comcast, giving close to 400 Pacific Northwest athletes an opportunity to put their talent on display.
This will mark the third year for Competitive Edge in Sumner and has become a must-see for college coaches from around the region. Division I-A programs Washington, Washington State, and Nevada-Las Vegas are just three of the 14 schools already registered.
"We have got very good feedback in terms of organization and getting the athletes in and out," Competitive Edge organizer Joe Albers said. "We have stayed right on our timeline and have actually finished ahead of schedule that last two years. The coaches really appreciate that."
Among the 378 athletes pre-registered athletes, eight from the state of Washington earned All-State honors a year ago, including first teamers Le'Roi Edwards of Kentridge and Brandon Jimenez of Mount Tahoma.
The testing and drills will be administered in two separate sessions, with the 40-yard dash, I-test, broad jump, and bench press in the morning, and one-one-ones and other position-related instruction and drills in the afternoon.
Comcast's ON DEMAND feature will make the event available a week from Saturday.
"We are really excited about having Comcast involved," Albers said. "I think having the testing and drills ON DEMAND might actually help alleviate the demands on coaches, giving whoever needs it more access to view these kids. We're hoping it will become a popular feature."
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and lunch will be provided. For more information, please visit the Competitive Edge site at www.gottheedge.com.
