MaxPreps National Team of the Week - St. Anthony, N.J.
St. Anthony (21-0) took a big step toward another unbeaten season under legendary head coach Bob Hurley last week, brushing aside Linden (54-47), Raritan (88-26), and St. Mary's of Phoenix (83-54) at the Prime Time Shootout in Trenton.
The seven-point win over Linden (19-2) looked especially impressive at the end of the weekend, after the Tigers knocked off American Christian, Pa., and Niagara Falls, N.Y., at separate Prime Time Shootout events in Philadelphia and Trenton.
Against Linden, 6-7 senior Chris Gaston led the way for St. Anthony with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while guards Mike Rosario and Travon Woodall chipped in 14 a piece.
The Friars' big test was supposed to come Saturday against Arizona-bound guard Jerryd Bayless and St. Mary's (Ariz.). Instead it turned into another Hurley defensive clinic and a lopsided win for the Jersey City school.
Rosario's 22 points paced St. Anthony. Bayless and St. Mary's had averaged 81 points per game in six-straight wins entering the weekend.
The Friars' toughest remaining regular season contest comes Feb. 22 at unbeaten St. Joseph Regional.
