There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. Among the games was a one-point thriller between Bishop O'Dowd and Monte Vista.
No Stoppin 'Em
Piedmont Hills and Terra Nova went up, up, and away last week as they combined for the highest point total (98) among all power ranked teams. Terra Nova enjoyed a cozy 59 - 39 win over Piedmont Hills. Thanks to its success, Terra Nova cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 24th spot.
Can't Touch This
Moreau Catholic's 42 - 14 win over James Logan last week had a lot to do with the leadership of junior Fresh Ison. Ison ran for 218 yards and also punched in two touchdowns. That performance landed Ison among the top power-ranked players for the week.
It was a battle of top-notch squads when Liberty (2nd in the power rankings) took on Cardinal Newman (8th) last week. Liberty earned a pretty comfortable 31 - 14 victory over Cardinal Newman. Cardinal Newman had come in flaunting an aggressive defense allowing an average of only 6.33 points per game, but that obviously didn't scare off Liberty.
Movin on Up
Bishop O'Dowd claimed most-improved honors this week by climbing the power ranking ladder six rungs after its game against Monte Vista. Bishop O'Dowd won a game that couldn't get any closer, slipping by Monte Vista 17 - 16. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Bishop O'Dowd after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
