We are still reeling from last week's game. We both predicted Oaks to win, but in no way expected what we saw Friday night. It wasn't that Bonaventure was not a great team either, it was how solid Oaks was. Even after seeing several of the best teams in the country at the USA vs. Ohio Challenge, I have never seen so much talent at the high school level. What made them truly deadly was how fundamentally sound they were on top of their talent. Oaks Christian is a team that could dominate with their talent alone, but it is their team play that forces me to consider them as the best team we've seen so far. Their superstars are quick to spread the credit to their teammates down in the trenches and the coaches appear to have kept them hungry and not satisfied with just being good. Many of their guys were almost reluctant to talk about "the statement" they made with their win, but simply pointed to their next big upcoming game and let the scoreboard do the talking. If those guys stay focused they are going to be the frontrunners for the State Championship and we will see them in December.
Tonight we've stopped at Grand Canyon National Park and were planning to get up early tomorrow and check things out. Chris has never been here and the only time I was here was when I was a little kid, so it should make for an awesome morning and then we will take off Texas. However, there is this little problem Chris has with sleepwalking so there is a slight chance I could be on my own for the next few months if he wonders off too far.
