Got to Houston on Saturday, for Texas part deux. Unfortunately, it's alot colder this go-around. I hardly have any warm weather clothes, so I showed up today at the Katy practice in shorts and my MaxPreps polo. I didn't think it was supposed to get this cold down here! Saturday was gorgeous, and I was thinking about checking out the outdoor pool here in Sunday. Plans quickly changed when temperatues dipped into the 50's!
Katy's varsity was not practicing today, but I dropped in on them while they were having a film session today. Coach Joseph was happy to have me. I got to interview quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and runningback Aundre Dean. Mitchell, a 6-3 righty with great accuracy, returns for his second year as a starting QB for the Tigers. Dean is in his third season of seeing significant carries. He's the sparkplug for the offense, and has already committed to UCLA.
Both Bo and Aundre were very nice and welcoming to me, and each spoke well. They both seemed humble, which is always good to see, especially for two stars on arguably the most dangerous team in Texas.
Their rivalry with Cinco Ranch is interesting. Cinco Ranch is a very new school, and is a product of the growth of the Katy area. The schools are extremely close to one another. In its short existence, Cinco Ranch has turned itself into quite a football program. Last year they were 11-2, knocking off several top Houston area squads. Their only regular season loss was at the hands of Katy, 17-3.
Tomorrow we will drop by the Cinco Ranch practice and check in with Coach Clayton's squad. Check back for more tomorrow, if I don't turn into a human popsicle before then!~SS
