You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out between Brewster and Mabton. Everything went Brewster's way against Mabton on Friday as the squad secured a 48-8 victory. Brewster were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
Brewster got off to a slow start in their previous match, but they had no such trouble against Mabton and cruised to a 27-point first half. Meanwhile, Mabton couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 27-0 heading into the break. The Brewster defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 6 and all but finishing the matchup.
Brewster's success was spearheaded by the efforts of senior Joe Taylor, who picked up 77 yards on the ground and snatched 2 receiving TDs, and senior Ernie Nanamkin, who rushed for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. Junior Mason Kelly was in the mix, too, providing Brewster with 2 touchdowns. The win bumped their record up to 1-2. The defeat dropped Mabton's record to 1-2.
Next week Brewster take on Tonasket at Tonasket High School at 7:00 PM. Mabton will be staying on the road, facing off against Tri-Cities Prep.
