Oregon National Guard and Rescues

An Oregon National Guard helicopter team hoisted an injured hiker from Mount Jefferson this weekend. 64-year-old Jonathan Sprecher, of Bend, was descending the mountain Friday evening after a successful summit when he fell near the Milk Creek Glacier and hurt his leg.

Search and Rescue teams reached Sprecher around 5 p.m. the next day and learned that Sprecher’s partner was another 1,100 feet up the mountain. Sprecher also couldn’t put any weight on his leg.

An Oregon National Guard helicopter arrived about an hour later and transported Sprecher to Salem Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
