The Madison Patriots basketball team (Marshall, NC), was nudged 49-44 in Thursday's league battle with the host Mitchell Mountaineers (Bakersville, NC)

The Mountaineers now sport a 1-4 record. They put it on the line next when they host Smoky Mountain for a non-league battle on Saturday, January 23. Mitchell will battle a Mustangs team coming off a 46-44 league win over Brevard (Brevard, NC). The Mustangs record now stands at 2-1.

The Patriots (1-4) will now prepare for their battle against Mountain Heritage (Burnsville, NC). The Cougars come into the Western Highlands 1A/2A battle with a 3-0 record.
