Texas High School Basketball - Zapata nips Grulla
January 9, 2024: Zapata, TX 78076 Fans at Tuesday's league challenge between the Zapata Hawks (Zapata, TX) and the visiting Grulla Gators (Rio Grande City, TX), saw Zapata's basketball squad hold off Grulla by a count of 48-42.
With the victory, Zapata upgrades its record to 2-13 on the campaign. The Hawks travel to Hidalgo (Hidalgo, TX) to play the Pirates in a 4A Region IV District 32 challenge on Friday, January 12. The Pirates come into the challenge with a record of 10-13. Hidalgo lost 49-38 in their recent league challenge against Port Isabel (Port Isabel, TX)
Next up, the Gators play the Raymondville Bearkats (Raymondville, TX) in a 4A Region IV District 32 challenge, on Friday, January 12. Grulla will attempt to upgrade on its 6-8 season record. The Bearkats come into the challenge with a 9-18 record after their 56-55 league loss to Jubilee Brownsville (Brownsville, TX).
