Fans at Thursday's non-league contest between the Murphy Bulldogs (Murphy, NC) and the visiting Highlands Highlanders (Highlands, NC), observed Murphy's volleyball team top Highlands by a count of 3-1.

The Bulldogs (9-9) will now prepare for their contest against Swain County (Bryson City, NC). The Maroon Devils enter the Smoky Mountain 1A/2A contest with a 10-8 record. In their last contest, Swain County notched a victory over Andrews (Andrews, NC), 3-1, in a league contest.

Next, the Highlanders meet the Hiwassee Dam Eagles (Murphy, NC) in a contest, on Tuesday, October 7. Highlands will attempt to move on its 5-12 season record. The Eagles go into the battle with a 5-15 record after their 3-0 league win over Blue Ridge Early College (Cashiers, NC).
