Burke County Bears (Waynesboro, GA) backers exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Screven County Gamecocks (Sylvania, GA), 9-7 in a non-league challenge.

The Bears now own a 13-12 record. They take the field next when they host Islands for a 4A Region 3 challenge on Thursday, October 6. Burke County will face a Sharks squad coming off a 20-3 league win over New Hampstead (Savannah, GA). The Sharks record now stands at 14-5.

With the loss, Screven County falls to 9-13 on the campaign. The Gamecocks host Southeast Bulloch (Brooklet, GA) to face the Yellowjackets in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, October 12. The Yellowjackets enter the challenge with a record of 14-7.
