La Vega Pirates (Waco, TX) backers were pleased Wednesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Groesbeck Goats (Groesbeck, TX), 49-48 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, La Vega upgrades its record to 10-6 on the campaign. The Pirates travel to West (West, TX) to play the Trojans in a non-league bout on Thursday, December 29. The Trojans come into the bout with a record of 0-10. West lost 54-29 in their recent league bout against Whitney (Whitney, TX)

Next up, the Goats play the C.H. Yoe Yoemen (Cameron, TX) in a non-league bout, on Friday, December 30. Groesbeck will attempt to upgrade on its 8-8 season record. The Yoemen come into the bout with a 11-4 record after their 73-43 non-league win over Robinson (Robinson, TX).
