The Alexander Central Cougars tipped the host Newton-Conover Red Devils basketball team by a final score of 49-43 in Thursday's non-league game.

In their next game, the Cougars face the Ashe County Huskies (West Jefferson, NC) in a 3A/4A Conference 52 game, on Friday, January 6. Alexander Central will attempt to move on its 12-0 season record.

With the defeat, Newton-Conover moves to 10-2 on the year. The Red devils travel to East Burke (Connelly Springs, NC) to face the Cavaliers in a 2A Conference 45 game on Tuesday, January 3.
