The Anderson Indians (Anderson, IN) basketball nipped the visiting Pendleton Heights Arabians (Pendleton, IN), 58-54 in Friday's non-league test.
The Indians (11-10) will now prepare for their test against Mt. Vernon (Fortville, IN). The Marauders go into the non-league test with a 16-6 record. In their last test, Mt. Vernon got by Greenfield-Central (Greenfield, IN), 62-37, in a non-league test.
The Arabians now own a 8-15 record.
A slow first quarter saw the Arabians have to dig out of a 15-2 hole. They did manage to get within 7 points when the first quarter was over. Luke Candiano managed to hit a three point shot with Zion Cook and Josiah Gustin each with 2 points and Ethan Ross hitting a free throw.
The second quarter saw the Arabians settle down and play their game as they were only behind by 1 point at halftime. Zion Cook scored 4 points to lead the Arabian offense while Luke Candiano hit 3 points while Jamison Dunham and Josiah Gustin each scored 2.
The third quarter was solid for the Arabians as they outscored the Indians and took the lead going in to the final quarter. Leading the scoring for Pendleton Heights was Jamison Dunham with 9 big points, Zion Cook hit a tremendous last second 3 point shot and Ethan Ross hit a free throw.
The fourth quarter was a battle for the entire 8 minutes as the game went in to an overtime. Jamison Dunham could not be stopped as he hit 4 of 4 field goals, 1 for 2 from the three point line and 1 for 1 free throws for a total of 12 points in the quarter. Ethan Ross and Zion Cook each scored 2 points.
The overtime period was dominated by the stronger Indians and the 2020-21 season is over for the Arabians.
