In Saturday's non-league outing, the Atholton Raiders (Columbia, MD) basketball squad edged the visiting C. Milton Wright Mustangs (Bel Air, MD), by a count of 68-62.
The Atholton raced out to a 10-0 lead and then had to withstand a barrage of threes from C. Milton Wright (CMW) to win the 3A East Regional Championship and give them the right to head to the Comcast Center in College Park on Thursday night for the state semifinals. Despite the fact the CMW cut the lead to one three or four times, they were never able to take the lead
and the lead hovered around 4-6 for most of the second half.
Jordan Oates once again led the way with 23 points (including 6 threes) and 17 rebounds. His six threes tonight broke the modern day record of 64 by Steve Lombardozzi in the 2006-2007 season. The record now stands at 66. His 17 rebounds tonight pushed his season rebounding record to 368, well beond Sam Permutt's record of 230 in 2006-2007
