Illinois High School Soccer - Deerfield knocks off Highland Park
September 28, 2021: Deerfield, IL 60015 Deerfield Warriors (Deerfield, IL) fans were thrilled Tuesday as they observed their soccer team triumph over the visiting Highland Park Giants (Highland Park, IL), 6-0 in a league challenge.
Next, the Warriors confront the Lakes Eagles (Lake Villa, IL) in a non-league challenge, on Monday, October 4. Deerfield will attempt to better on its 6-5 season record.
The Giants now have a 0-10 record. They take the field next when they travel to Maine East for a Central Suburban - North challenge on Thursday, September 30. Highland Park will confront a Blue Demons team coming off a 4-3 league loss to Maine West (Des Plaines, IL). The Blue Demons record now stands at 3-5.
Game Summary
Peter Straus finished a great cross from James Weiner at 36:21 to give the Warriors the only goal they would need. Straus collected his second when he intercepted a back pass and scored at 44:08. Andrew Babos made a great dribbling run, beating several defenders to set up Ryder Coleman for the 3rd goal at 63:45. Nathan Garcia headed home a pass from Coleman at 65:07 to make it 4-0. Coleman added his second on a pk at 66:20. Babos took a pass from Noah Weil and ripped a left footed shot to the far corner at 72:22 to close out the scoring. Ryan Toback made 4 saves to record the shutout.
