September 4, 2025: Sun Valley, CA 91352 The Sun Valley Magnet Pioneers (Sun Valley, CA) volleyball knocked off the visiting Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA), 3-0 in Thursday's league bout.
The Pioneers now possess a 3-1 record. They play next when they travel to Magnolia Science Academy Van Nuys for a Central Valley bout on Monday, September 8. Match Summary
Set 1 started with a different setter, a libero, & a different middle passer. After a 3-3 start, the Cougars led 6-3, then 9-4 & 11-7 against the defending Central Valley League champion Sun Valley Magnet. It almost worked. The Pioneers responded to the challenge. At 11-10, Lake Balboa took a timeout to try to step up & stop the surging Pioneers. Sun Valley's offense overwhelmed Laketown by scoring 15 of the next 17 points. After being swamped, confusion over libero swap & substitutions, & 2 players unavailable, LBCP changed the lineup again. They traded blows with Lake Balboa down only 5-6 before Sun Valley broke away 11-5. They were never seriously challenged again scoring 14 of the next 25 points. Set 3 started 3-2 before being wiped out by the Pioneers 6-3 . The Cougars fought back to 10 all, then 12-12 before being dropped on the canvas 12-19. 6-4 sideout ball sealed the deal for the victory to Sun Valley Magnet.
