The Crete Cardinals the visiting Nebraska City Pioneers soccer squad by a margin of 2-0 in Friday's non-league match.
The Cardinals now sport a 6-1 record. They play next when they travel to Grand Island Central Catholic for a non-league match on Monday, April 8. Crete will encounter a Crusaders squad coming off a 1-0 non-league win over Madison (Madison, NE). The Crusaders record now stands at 2-4.
With the loss, Nebraska City drops to 3-5 on the season. The Pioneers travel to Gretna (Gretna, NE) to encounter the Dragons in a non-league match on Monday, April 8. The Dragons come into the match with a record of 6-0. Gretna won 5-1 in their recent non-league match against Bennington (Bennington, NE)
Nebraska City traveled to #4 Crete to face the cardinals. The cardinals controlled the game early on and found the back of the net in the 27th minute when Juan Diego Lopez crossed a ball into the box and Rafael Sandoval connected on a header into the goal. Crete led at halftime 1-0. Crete started out strong again in the second half. Crete scored just 7 minutes in in the second half when Alexis Carbajal found a bouncing ball in the box and blasted it past the keeper for a 2-0 lead. Crete was awarded a PK with just 10 minutes remaining, but failed to convert. "I am proud with how we came out and really dictated the game play. We new we would have to pass the ball around to try to unlock the Nebraska City defense. They are very solid along the back line and it took us awhile to spread them out and find some space."
