The Trojans now possess a 12-8 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Columbus for a AAAA Region 1 battle on Tuesday, January 22. Dougherty will confront a Blue Devils team coming off a 53-49 league loss to Shaw (Columbus, GA). The Blue Devils record now stands at 0-18.
The Raiders (11-9) will now prepare for their battle against Columbus (Columbus, GA). The Blue Devils come into the AAAA Region 1 battle with a 0-17 record. In their last battle, Columbus dropped by Carver (Columbus, GA), 83-28, in a league battle.
First Quarter
Rod Jones's 23 points propelled Dougherty to a 81-69 victory over Shaw on Friday. Dougherty Trojans Boys Varsity secured their lead in the third quarter on a two-pointer from Jones.
Dougherty fell short early, trailing 41-36 by the half, only to come back strong in the final two quarters. Dougherty had a late in the game surge, scoring a game-high 26 points in the third quarter on the strength of a 18-3 run.
Great play from the field made Jones stand out, as he made 71% (10-for-14) of shots attempted as well as 75% (3-for-4) of threes attempted.
Jordan Greene put two three-pointers on the board and scored 16 points total. Two other players also added ten or more points for Dougherty. Will Riggins put up 18 points. Also helping the effort for Dougherty were Jalan Hunter (7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal), Eric Gulley (6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals), Trey Woodard (5 points), Lamar Hall (2 points), Deonte Brodges (2 points, 1 rebound), and KJ Johnson (2 points, 3 rebounds).
Second Quarter
Justin Jackson was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up 16 rebounds, three steals and one block.
Dougherty finished the game with 42 rebounds (16 offensive / 26 defensive), two blocks and 16 steals.
