Arizona High School Softball - Horizon bounces Chaparral
April 10, 2013: Scottsdale, AZ 85253 The Horizon Huskies (Scottsdale, AZ) softball the host Chaparral Firebirds (Scottsdale, AZ), 9-5 in Wednesday's league bout.
The Huskies (8-2) will now prepare for their bout against Deer Valley (Glendale, AZ). The Skyhawks go into the bout with a 2-1 record. In their last bout, Deer Valley held off Mountain Ridge (Glendale, AZ), 9-2, in a league bout.
The Firebirds now possess a 0-5 record. They play next when they host Westwood for a bout on Friday, April 12. Chaparral will confront a Warriors squad coming off a 17-1 non-league loss to Xavier College Prep (Phoenix, AZ). The Warriors record now stands at 0-4.
Game Summary
The Husky JV showed guts on WEDNESDAY, coming from 2 back with a run explosion in the top of the 3rd! The ladies kept in the game, and fought through early errors for a much needed come from behind win.
Sami Wells had three hits in the lead off spot. Jordan Wehr and Morgan Hyde (up from FROSH) provided the power with two hits each; a double (Wehr) and triple (Hyde). Ciera B., Kendall C., and Tara Dietrich (up from FROSH) added to the hit total.
A sharp backup play by Sami Wells, (2-6), stopped a would be rally by the Firebirds in the 5th and Morgan Hyde recovered from early game gitters with a nice tag out (4-3) double play stopping another late surge by Chaparral.
Jordan Wehr pitched a complete game with 8 Ks, 1 walk, giving up seven hits and three earned.
Great job on the comeback ladies! Horizon seeks revenge against Deer Valley on Friday.
