The Vikings (6-9) will now prepare for their battle against Newark Memorial (Newark, CA). The Cougars come into the Mission Valley battle with a 12-1 record. In their last battle, Newark Memorial nudged Kennedy (Fremont, CA), 4-1, in a league battle.
The Titans (1-6) will now prepare for their battle against Logan (Union City, CA). The Colts come into the Mission Valley battle with a 6-10 record.
Game Summary
Irvington 3, Kennedy 1: Daniel Garcia recorded a hat trick in Irvington's win over Kennedy at Tak.
Garcia didn't waste any time getting the Vikings (4-4-1, 13 points) on the board. In the third minute, he got a pass from goalkeeper Greg O'Neill and went 40 yards down the field and found himself in a 1-on-1 situation that he easily converted.
Kennedy (3-5-1, 10 points) tied the match at 1-1 late in the second half. Kennedy midfielder Jaime Quezada crossed to forward Dominic Hertz, who was standing all alone on the back side of the goal for the easy tap-in.
But the second half was all Irvington — and Garcia. The forward converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute that gave the Vikings a 2-1 lead — a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.
The Vikings put the match away in the 77th minute on Garcia's third goal of the game — a header with an assist from Josh Robello.
