First Quarter
From the way the Titans played in the first quarter, it appeared they overlooked their opponent. Mater Dei outhustled Eastlake on the glass, getting numerous second-chance points, and scored 23 1st quarter points, to the delight of their home crowd. Eastlake wasn't going to earn a win without having to work for it, and Coach Marlon King began shuffling his lineups as a result.
Second Quarter
The Crusaders continued to build their lead in the second quarter, easily dissecting the Eastlake press and building a 35-23 lead before something clicked for the Titans, and they had their best three-minute shooting stretch of the season. Alec Delatorre got a paint touch and kicked to Kyle Desroches, who hit a 3. After a Mater Dei Turnover, Jaden Cortell took an inbounds pass from Emiliano Lara and immediately pulled the trigger from 20 feet, knocking down a second three. After a Victor Acosta rebound of a miss, Cortell took the inbounds, quickly pushed it, and found Evan Villaruel for a third three pointer. Then Cortell got an offensive rebound of a Villaruel miss, and kicked it out to Jaden Sarabia for a fourth three pointer! Eastlake now trailed, 37-35. Just before half, Cortell got his 6th assist of the half finding a hot Desroches in the corner, for a 5th Eastlake three in the run, giving the Titans a halftime lead after trailing by 12 just a few minutes before.
Third Quarter
The Titans halftime chat and strategy session worked wonders, as their press keyed an 18-1 run to start the third quarter and effectively end the game. Jaden Cortell had a double-double midway through the 3rd quarter and the team continued its hot three point shooting (50% through 3). It was all over but the shouting, and everybody would get a chance to play.
