Minnesota High School Baseball - Pine Island sneaks past Cannon Falls
May 31, 2016: Cannon Falls, MN 55009 The Pine Island Panthers (Pine Island, MN) baseball nipped the host Cannon Falls Bombers (Cannon Falls, MN), 2-1 in Tuesday's non-league contest.
The Bombers now sport a 19-5 record.
Game Summary
The Panthers and Bombers hooked up in a classic defensive battle, with Pine Island coming from behind to score single runs in the 5th and 6th innings, to edge Cannon Falls, and claimed their first Sub-Section Championship since 2010. Brady Braaten fired a 2 hitter, walked 1, and struck out 2, for the complete game win. The Panthers had three errors in the second inning to give CF the lead, but played outstanding defensive baseball for the remainder of the game. Drew Lohmeyer's infield single tied it up in the 5th, and Brady Braaten's RBI double put PI ahead to stay in the 6th. PI will now advance to the Section 1AA Tournament and will play the 1AA East champions, Lake City, on June 4th. PI edged Lake City, 4-3, during the regular season in Pine Island on April 9th. The Panthers are 16-7 on the season.
