New Jersey High School Baseball - West Milford can't hold off St. Peter's Prep
May 20, 2016: Jersey City, NJ 07302 In Friday's non-league game, the host St. Peter's Prep Marauders baseball team scored a tight 6-5 win over the West Milford Highlanders.
The Highlanders now sport a 1-2 record.
Game Summary
After a lengthy delay, St. Peter's Prep and visiting West Milford battled back and forth at Laurel Hill in the Semifinal of the Ben Jurgensen Memorial Freshmen Tournament. West Milford scored 2 in the 1st, Prep answered with 2 in the first: 3B/RHP Julian Todd singled and scored on an RBI-single by CF Jeremiah Guzman. Guzman stole 2nd and scored on an RBI-single by 1B/RF Sean Demo. West Milford scored two more in the 2nd, Prep answered with two more in the 3rd: SS/1B Matteo Sollecito and Demo walked, then 2B Tyler Mancini drove them both in with an RBI-single to left-center. The score remained tied until the 5th inning. After Sollecito singled and Guzman doubled, Mancini drove in Sollecito and a motoring Guzman with a perfectly-executed suicide squeeze. 3B/RHP Julian Todd (picked up the win in relief and RHP Richie Luzzi-Liggins (2 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K) earned his first save of the season. With the 5-3 victory, Prep advances into the championship game against Ramapo in West Milford.
