New Mexico High School Volleyball - Los Alamos routed by Goddard
November 14, 2019: Los Alamos, NM 87544 The Goddard Rockets volleyball team scored 3 points and limited the host Los Alamos Hilltoppers to 0 in the Rockets non-league victory on Thursday.
The Rockets now have a 19-4 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Santa Teresa for a non-league game on Friday, November 15. Goddard will meet a Desert Warriors team coming off a 3-0 non-league win over Artesia (Artesia, NM). The Desert Warriors record now stands at 17-6.
The Hilltoppers (15-8) will now prepare for their game against Silver (Silver City, NM). The Fighting Colts enter the non-league game with a 18-5 record. In their last game, Silver dropped by Hope Christian (Albuquerque, NM), 3-2, in a non-league game.
Match Summary
Los Alamos looked sluggish and out of sync in the three set loss. Goddard beat the Toppers with their own brand of ball. Pound it, pound it and pound it again. Los Alamos who normally thrives on controlling the net and blocking other teams only but up 11 solo blocks and had 5 blocking errors on the night. That combined with 11 hitting errors made for a rough afternoon. The back row receiving was suspect with 25 receive errors.
Natalie Gallegos led the way with 10 kills followed by Nadia Gallegos, Eden Schmierer and Michaela Gonzales with 4 Kills each. Ariel Edkin added 3 Kills on 9 attempts. Ariel also added an ace from the service line and 5 points off serve. Elise Olivas had 5 points on 10 serves. The Toppers will look to rebound against Silver City on Friday morning as they continue their run at a State Title.
