In Friday's non-league match, the host Lanier Poets basketball team scored a tight 63-59 triumph over the Smiths Station Panthers.

In their next game, the Poets meet the Southside Panthers (Selma, AL) in a non-league match, on Monday, December 18. Lanier will attempt to move on its 5-9 season record. The Panthers enter the match with a 4-4 record after their 50-33 non-league loss to Alexandria (Alexandria, AL).

With the defeat, Smiths Station moves to 6-6 on the year. The Panthers travel to Geneva (Geneva, AL) to meet the Panthers in a non-league match on Wednesday, December 20. The Panthers enter the match with a record of 9-3.
