Starkville Academy Volunteers (Starkville, MS) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad nudge the visiting Hartfield Academy Hawks (Flowood, MS), 42-35 in a non-league game.

In their next game, the Volunteers face the Pillow Academy Mustangs (Greenwood, MS) in a MAIS 5A District 1 game, on Friday, December 8. Starkville Academy will attempt to move on its 9-4 season record. The Mustangs enter the game with a 10-0 record after their 53-46 non-league win over Jackson Academy (Jackson, MS).

With the defeat, Hartfield Academy moves to 5-6 on the year. The Hawks host Oak Forest Academy (Amite, LA) to face the Yellowjackets in a non-league game on Thursday, December 7. The Yellowjackets enter the game with a record of 0-3. Oak Forest Academy lost 57-43 in their recent non-league game against Presbyterian Christian (Hattiesburg, MS)
