Gregory-Portland Wildcats (Portland, TX) backers exited the stadium thrilled Friday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting Victoria East Titans (Victoria, TX), 5-1 in a league challenge.

The Wildcats now own a 11-12 record. They take the field next when they host Ray for a 5A Region IV District 29 challenge on Tuesday, March 22. Gregory-Portland will battle a Texans squad coming off a 10-2 league win over King (Corpus Christi, TX). The Texans record now stands at 4-10.

With the loss, Victoria East falls to 3-11 on the campaign. The Titans travel to Carroll (Corpus Christi, TX) to battle the Tigers in a 5A Region IV District 29 challenge on Friday, March 25. The Tigers enter the challenge with a record of 8-11. Carroll won 13-1 in their recent league challenge against King (Corpus Christi, TX)
