Greenville Lakers (Greenville, ME) fans exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Piscataquis Pirates (Guilford, ME), 8-7 in a non-league challenge.

The Lakers now sport a 1-0 record. They take the field next when they travel to Valley for a Class D South challenge on Friday, April 28.

With the loss, Piscataquis falls to 0-3 on the campaign. The Pirates travel to Penquis Valley (Milo, ME) to face the Patriots in a Class C North challenge on Friday, April 28. The Patriots enter the challenge with a record of 2-0. Penquis Valley won 17-12 in their recent non-league challenge against Stearns (Millinocket, ME)
