Baseball Recap: Cerritos Comes Up Short

Cerritos fell victim to Beckman and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Beckman Patriots by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Dons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Frank Melendrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Cerritos saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braxton Reed, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Reed is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Cerritos' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Beckman, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cerritos will welcome Chino Hills at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Chino Hills will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Cerritos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Beckman, they will be playing at home against Summit at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
