Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Falls Despite Big Games from Aubry Dowling and Amelia Anderson

After flying high against Perry Meridian on Monday, Mt. Vernon came back down to earth. The Marauders fell just short of the New Palestine Dragons by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Marauders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dragons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Mt. Vernon started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-13.

Mt. Vernon's loss came despite strong showings from Amelia Anderson and Aubry Dowling. Anderson had 19 digs and four aces, while Dowling had 25 digs and three assists. With that strong performance, Anderson is now averaging an impressive 10.1 digs per game.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for New Palestine, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 26-4.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will square off against Brownstown Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for New Palestine, after both having extra time off, they and Beech Grove will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
