Baseball Game Preview: South Pasadena Tigers vs. Alhambra Moors

The South Pasadena Tigers will host the Alhambra Moors at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

South Pasadena is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Wednesday. They skirted past Los Altos 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 16, 2024.

Phil Malatesta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Malatesta was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other pitching news, South Pasadena got a great performance from Hanson Chan as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Diego Gurfein, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Alhambra made easy work of Temple City on Tuesday and carried off an 8-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Moors in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.

Alhambra got a big performance out of Marc Hernandez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, Hernandez posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
