Brentwood has gone 8-2 against Briarwood Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The War Eagles will square off against the Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Brentwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Briarwood Academy likes a good challenge.
Brentwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Windsor Academy 49-21. Given the War Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Knights are ranked 401st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Briarwood Academy). They claimed a resounding 51-9 win over Trinity Christian. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Brentwood better keep an eye on Cutler Fleming. He was instrumental in Briarwood Academy's win, rushing for 196 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Fleming really tore up the turf during one magnificent 72-yard run. Caden Johnson was in the mix as well, providing Briarwood Academy with one score.
Briarwood Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Christian only rushed for 61.
One reason for the win was Briarwood Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Tj Bowick, Johnson, and Trey Cotton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Briarwood Academy received some extra help from Johnson, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Brentwood's record is now 10-1. As for Briarwood Academy, their record now sits at 9-2.
Everything came up roses for Brentwood against Briarwood Academy when the teams last played back in September, as the team secured a 49-20 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Fleming, who rushed for 143 yards while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also threw for 57 yards and two TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the War Eagles still be able to contain Fleming? There's only one way to find out.
