Football Recap: Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets vs. West Craven Eagles
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Roanoke Rapids can now relate to. They were beaten by the West Craven Eagles 41-6 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 307th, while the Eagles are ranked 45th).
DJ Davis produced another solid performance throwing for 262 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 64 yards on only nine carries for West Craven. That's the most passing touchdowns Davis has posted since back in November of 2024. A healthy portion of Davis' aerial production (122 yards to be exact) went to Jeremiah Leigh, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.
Roanoke Rapids' defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for West Craven, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1.
Roanoke Rapids does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Craven, they will take on T.W. Andrews at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
