Basketball Recap: Coldwater Comes Up Short

Coldwater suffered their closest loss since January 6, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Shawnee Indians by a score of 53-51. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Shawnee was led to victory by Beckett Bertke and Trevick Bertke. Beckett almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Trevick went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds. Beckett has been hot, having posted 17 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Hutchins, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Coldwater and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Shawnee, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

When Coldwater and Shawnee next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Coldwater will try to stop Elida's five-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Shawnee will try to stop St. John's eight-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
