Softball Recap: Ponte Vedra Triumphs

Ponte Vedra hadn't done well against Creekside recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Ponte Vedra Sharks came out on top against the Creekside Knights by a score of 5-1. For the Sharks, this counts as revenge for the 10-0 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Aoife Weaver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Ponte Vedra let Natasha Deutch and Emma Shin run wild. Deutch scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Shin scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

The win made it two in a row for Ponte Vedra and bumps their season record up to 8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Creekside, they moved to 8-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ponte Vedra will venture away from home to take on Keystone Heights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Ponte Vedra is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. Creekside will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Middleburg at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. Middleburg will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Creekside surely won't give up without a fight.
