Softball Game Preview: Fairless Falcons vs. Canton South Wildcats

Fairless is 0-4 against Canton South since April of 2023 but things could change on Monday. The Falcons will host the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Fairless will be strutting in after a win while Canton South will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Fairless faced off against Hiland on Saturday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Hawks. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly ten runs.

Madison Barkan made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Blackwood, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Chelsie Woods was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Fairless always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Canton South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 7-2 to Canton Central Catholic. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly five runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Fairless and bumps their season record up to 4-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Canton South, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Fairless suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Canton South in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
