Baseball Game Preview: Jones Eagles vs. Brooks Eagles

Jones and Brooks are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. Jones will square off against Brooks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, Jones came up short against Chicago Washington and fell 5-1. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly four runs.

Ellis Alexander was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Madden Asbaty, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Brooks never let Lindblom get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Brooks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 25, 2024.

Brooks got a big performance out of Kelly West, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave West a new career-high. Jake Ramirez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Brooks kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Brooks and bumps their season record up to 4-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Jones, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jones has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brooks struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Jones couldn't quite get it done against Brooks in their previous meeting on Thursday as they fell 8-4. Can Jones avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
