Basketball Preview: Mt. Olive Wildcats vs. South County Vipers
Mt. Olive hasn't had much luck against South County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Vipers at 6:00 p.m. South County took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Mt. Olive, who comes in off a win.
Mt. Olive will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 18 points last Saturday, then bounced right back against Lebanon on Saturday. The Wildcats snuck past the Greyhounds with a 56-50 win.
Mt. Olive can attribute much of their success to David Schoen, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 19 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks, and Dexter Frizzo, who posted 13 points along with five assists and three steals. That's the most steals Frizzo has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Kernebeck, who scored seven points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, South County suffered their closest defeat since February 5, 2025 on Monday. They fell just short of Lutheran by a score of 53-51.
South County's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Mt. Olive, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.
Mt. Olive took a serious blow against South County in their previous matchup back in January of 2025, falling 69-13. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
