Recap: Air Academy Kadets vs. Discovery Canyon Thunder
The Air Academy Kadets can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 58-50 victory over Discovery Canyon. That's another feather in the cap for Air Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Max Howery was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Air Academy's points. Noah Hellem was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Discovery Canyon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Duane Donlin, who scored 12 points along with eight assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Donlin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Eckles, who scored 16 points.
Even though they lost, Discovery Canyon were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Air Academy only posted five assists.
Air Academy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10. As for Discovery Canyon, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4.
Air Academy will head out on the road to face off against Cheyenne Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cheyenne Mountain is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. As for Discovery Canyon, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. Lutheran will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
